Fergus McCaffrey is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Viennese artist Martha Jungwirth, opening Saturday, March 28th at the gallery’s Tokyo location. The presentation focuses on Jungwirth’s most recent series of oil paintings, showcasing her singular exploration of color, movement, and abstraction.
Oscillating between the apparently accidental and deliberate, Jungwirth’s paintings convey tactile sensations through her gestural abstractions and rich palette, characteristic to the artist’s decades-long practice. Filled with her quintessentially vibrant brushstrokes, smudges, drags, and lines, this body of work lives in Jungwirth’s ever-morphing zone of pure invention, inspired by her wide travels, Greek mythology, the appearances of friends and companions, and contemporary political events.
